Saying "Yes" to God: Jason & Rachel’s Story

If you’ve ever watched the film Yes Man, you’ll know the premise: what happens when someone starts saying "Yes" to every opportunity? In the movie, that choice leads to an unexpected adventure - and even helps save a life.

For St Paul’s Mission Partners Jason & Rachel, saying Yes to God works in a similar way. Their lives - and the lives of many others - have been transformed simply because they decided that when God invites, they respond with Yes.

The First Yeses

Both Jason and Rachel said their first big “Yes” to God as teenagers, choosing to follow Jesus and let Him lead their lives. Another monumental "Yes" came in their early twenties, when they met as students here in Leeds. Standing in St George’s, they said “I do” to each other - a Yes that shaped every step that followed.

A Surprising Invitation

About ten years later, an unexpected challenge arrived. Jason was asked to build a Christian website in Pashto, a language spoken in Afghanistan and Pakistan - countries where access to Scripture is extremely limited and asking spiritual questions can be dangerous. It was a faith-stretching request, but Jason said "Yes".

A few years after that came another opportunity: create the first Scripture app for Pashto speakers. Again, Jason said "Yes". He and Rachel still remember the night the app went live. As they went to bed, they talked about Jesus going after the one lost sheep - and how incredible it would be if even one person downloaded the app. By the next morning, three people had already downloaded it.

A Growing Harvest

By 2012, the downloads weren’t just trickling in anymore - they were exploding. It was clear that God was opening doors. Jason and Rachel began praying about their future. Just three weeks later, Jason received an invitation to join Pamir Ministries, a Christian media ministry reaching Afghans through radio, TV, websites, apps, videos, and social media - all in Afghan languages.

The invitation meant moving their family across the world to Canada. Once again, Jason & Rachel said "Yes". In 2014, they packed up their lives in the UK and stepped into a whole new chapter.

Where They Are Now

Today, Jason develops and maintains the technology behind Pamir Ministries’ Bible-sharing work, while Rachel supports communication with ministry partners, churches, and supporters.

Through this ministry, thousands of Afghans are hearing about Jesus - and many who’ve said "Yes" to God themselves are now partnering with Pamir Ministries to reach their own people.

Our "Yes" at St Paul’s

As a church family, we’ve said "Yes" too - committing to pray for and financially support Jason & Rachel in this Kingdom-impacting work.

We can’t wait to welcome them here in May and hear more about what God is doing through the simple, courageous act of saying Yes.
