My Internship Journey at St. Paul’s - By Sara Phillips

When I first started thinking about applying for the internship at St Paul’s, there were a few different things that enc

ouraged me to take the leap of faith. Having witnessed what previous interns had achieved was certainly part of it, but ultimately, it was much more about following what I felt God was calling me to do.

Sometimes life can get in the way of our intentions, and I know that has certainly been true

in my own life. There have been many times when I have wanted to spend more time with

God, learn more about my faith and understand his plans for me, but other things have taken priority. This internship feels like an opportunity to change that and make space for God in a deeper and more intentional way.

One of the things I am particularly looking forward to is learning more about theology and

growing in my understanding of God and His Word. I know there is so much for me to learn, and I am excited, but also a little nervous, about the journey ahead.

My particular areas of focus will be community and pastoral care. These are areas that are

very close to my heart. Through my own experiences in life, I have developed a deep sense

of compassion and empathy for others. I understand that everyone has their own story, their own struggles and their own circumstances, and I hope that God can use my experiences to help me support and walk alongside others.

I have been out of work for over twenty years because of various illnesses and disabilities,

so reaching this point is something I don't take for granted. There have been many

challenges along the way, but with God’s help, and through the support and encouragement I have received from St Paul’s, I have progressed further than I ever imagined I would.

I am really looking forward to spending Mondays at St George’s Conference Centre, learning alongside other like-minded people, sharing experiences and growing together. I am also looking forward to giving my all to St Paul’s and seeing where God leads me.

I know there will be days when I feel tired, challenged or unsure of myself, but I am reminded that I don't have to do this alone. I trust that God will be with me every step of the way.

If you could pray for me during this journey, that would mean so much to me.

  • That physically, I will be able to complete the internship.

  • For my family - my husband, Darren and our girls - for understanding, patience and togetherness, especially during times of tiredness.

  • For God’s guidance, wisdom and direction for me personally, and that I will continue to follow where He leads.

Many blessings to you all, and thank you for your prayers and support as I begin this new chapter.
