From the Upper Room to the Empty Tomb: Our Journey Through Holy Week

As we step back from Holy Week, we’re filled with gratitude for the many ways we walked together through the story of Easter — from quiet reflection to joyful celebration.
Maundy Thursday – Love in Humility
We began in the upper room, remembering Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples. We listened again to Jesus’ call to love one another — not just with words, but with action. Millie shared how at the last Supper we see three gifts Jesus gave us - Sharing bread and wine in Communion, of the New Covenant, and to serve one another. But also the three sadnesses of Simon Peter’s denial, Judas betrayal and Jesus’ impending death.

Good Friday – The Journey to the Cross
Our All Age service on Good Friday led us through the journey to the cross — tactile, prayerful spaces that helped every generation engage with Jesus’ journey to Calvary. From the Last Supper to the foot of the cross, we reflected. Later that evening, our quiet service drew us into the depth of sorrow and surrender. One particularly powerful moment was hearing Bach’s haunting “Komm, süßer Tod” (“Come, Sweet Death”). Written in the 1730s, this piece was a prayerful longing for peace and rest in God — a deeply fitting echo as we imagined Jesus enduring mocking, suffering, and the weight of the cross. The music’s slow, aching beauty offered space to contemplate Christ’s sacrifice in a way words simply couldn’t. You can listen here:
Holy Saturday – Easter Eggstravaganza!
After the stillness of Friday, Saturday we reached out to the community with laughter and life with our Easter Eggstravaganza! Families poured in for a fun-filled morning of Easter egg hunts, bouncy castles, face painting, crafts, and plenty of refreshments. In the midst of the joy, we paused for a short talk about the real meaning of Easter — that Jesus deeply loves and values us, the Jesus is alive and brings new life for all who trust in Him.

Easter Sunday – From Darkness to Light
At sunrise, a group of us gathered at Tinshill Top around a fire pit — watching the light break through the sky as we sang, prayed, and proclaimed: Christ is Risen!

The joy continued with our 9:30am Holy Communion celebration, full of resurrection praise, and then at 11am, our All Age Easter Celebration truly brought the house down! With confetti cannons firing and voices raised in “Thine Be the Glory,” we declared together that death has been defeated, hope is alive, and Jesus lives!
From the towel and basin to the empty tomb, we have travelled with Christ. May we continue to carry Easter hope into our everyday lives — serving, loving, and celebrating the Risen King.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
